HALESOWEN PROGRAMME NOTES 4th JANUARY-25th FEBRUARY 2025

Dear Supporter

Happy New Year to everyone! We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year.  These notes were written before the Biggleswade, Stratford and Harborough games so a lot of football has been played in the last couple of weeks.  At the time of writing we have just gained a hard fought point away to Spalding.  The football was not pretty – the only pretty sight was the Winter sunset - but we went toe to toe with their robust footballing style and came away with the point which left us one point ahead of Halesowen (today’s opponents).  How the table looks today is anyone’s guess but hopefully we are still top of the pile.  Halesowen was our first game of this season away at the Yeltz.  Practically a whole new squad took the field that day – we didn’t know them; they didn’t know us!  We could see the potential in the players that day and it has not disappointed us thus far.  Surely we are in for a cracker today – let’s hope so and let’s hope the 3 points come our way!

So what lies ahead for the Trust?  Short-medium term:

We will soon be selling/raffling off the remaining FA Cup goals following on from the hundreds we sold a while back.  Names and goals were put on boards displayed in the ground – look out for details coming soon.

We will also be looking to resurrect our 300 Club fund-raising scheme once the FA Cup goals have been sold.  We want to build up our bank balance so we can assist the Club with some of their smaller projects.  We touch base with George from time to time and will be having a catch up with him to see what those projects might be.  As you know, the Trust’s remit is to donate funds which will benefit the fans/Poppies family.  We recently donated to the Children’s Christmas Party which went towards providing some of the entertainment for the afternoon in the form of a magician/balloon artist!  Having attended the party with my great-nephew I can confirm that Mr Custard kept the kids “quiet” for quite some time!  A big well done to Gary and Sarah for organising the party – it all ran smoothly and they also managed to get Father Christmas to stop by to see the kids!

In March we will be looking to run a race night for the Dylan Cecil Fund.  The Trust supports this charity and we have run race nights previously – they are well attended and raise a large amount of money for a worthy cause.  Look out for details coming soon.

This calendar membership year we have 100 members (37 of which are life members) and we thank you all for joining.  Of course, events run and money donated are not just for Trust members but for all Poppies fans.  Supporters organisations come and go so we are proud that the Trust has been round for 32 years!  Long may it continue but it does take a small band of people to keep it ticking over.  If you feel that you can bring something to the Trust Board then please contact us – we would love to hear from you.
